Tech Review: New Nintendo 2DS XL

The New Nintendo 2DS XL has been out for a few weeks now and from what I’ve heard it is a great new addition to the DS family. Now I didn’t plan on getting the new 2DS XL this soon after it’s release but due to my trusty 3DS XL breaking a few days ago. It actually worked out cheaper for me to buy a new console than go ahead with a repair.

I took to the internet and looked for any deals or bundles for the new console. I didn’t find any but I settled on buying my 2DS XL from Argos and used their Fast Track service for next day delivery. Needless to say I was impressed when Argos were ahead on their allocated time slot.

Argos currently have the Nintendo 2DS XL retailing for £129.99 in either black & turquoise or orange & white.

Now I’ve had the console for a few days now and so far I’m really happy with the 2DS XL. The console was easy to set up and I was able to easily transfer the data from my broken 3DS over to the new console just fine in just over an hour.

What are some of the pro’s to the New Nintendo 2DS XL?

  • Cartridges & MicroSD card are protected by a small cover at the bottom of the console
  • New clamshell design
  • It comes with the C-Stick and additional shoulder buttons
  • The screen size is about 80% larger than the old 2DS console
  • Amiibo compatibility
  • Attractive and refreshing design
  • Light weight and comfortable

Despite the pro’s of the New Nintendo 2DS XL I have a couple of cons yet I don’t find they imapct the way I play my games.

  • Shorter stylus than previous DS consoles
  • Battery Life doesn’t last as long as the 3DS XL

Overall though the New Nintendo 2DS XL is a lovely little handheld console with full access to all exsisting and upcoming 3DS titles. Not only that, you have the huge back catolouge of older games too! It’s good value for money and if you are looking to purchase a DS for the first time or simply updating it is a great addition. I have also purchased a couple of new games that I am excited to play and review in the future on the blog.
