First Look: Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom

Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is the follow up to the highly successful Japanese role-playing gaming Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch which was originally released back in 2010. Developed by Level-5 and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment the sequel has recently been released on PlayStation 4 and Windows.

The sequel is set around a hundred years after the events in the previous game and follows the story of Evan Pettwhisker Tildrum. The boy king of Ding Dong Dell who’s aim it is to reclaim his kingdom once and for all with a few challenges and battles along the way.

I must admit here I have never played the previous Ni No Kuni game and although it isn’t the same, I have been watching a playthrough of the game on YouTube by Nicholas D’amelio. and wish that I had played it when I had my PlayStation 3 back in 2015.

Loading up Ni No Kuni II for the first time I felt extremely excited. Although I was unsure what to expect from the game itself and judging from what I had seen and read online over the last few days I knew I was going to love the game. Also, the Studio Ghibli art style is one of my favourites and I am a big fan of the Studio Ghibli movies like Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and My Neighbour Totoro. Movies aside though, from what I have played of Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom has been incredible. The emotional rollercoaster the game takes you through in the first few hours of the game is something I really was not expecting.

That’s not it though. The story so far is enjoyable and is easy to follow what is going on, the characters are adorable, the battle system is easy to pick up and understand, the world is beautiful and Higgledies are just on a whole other level. I would love to have my own! I honestly could list so much about this game from what I have played so far that I love but that would defeat the point of me writing this blog post and not only that the best part is discovering everything that the game has to offer as well as all the hidden surprises that game has.

I still feel that I am only just starting off in the game but I know the game has so much more in store for me that I can’t wait to see what happens next in the story! If you are looking for a new game with an incredibly detailed world and characters as well as an intriguing story that keeps you wanting more I would seriously consider adding Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom to your games collection.
