What a start to this years E3! EA kicked things off with their EA Play event on Saturday followed by Xbox and Bethesda on Sunday.
EA Play had me filled with a mixture of thoughts and emotions about their press conference. While I’m not a big fan of EA Sports games or Battlefield V what was shown did keep me interested throughout. As for the games that were showcased, there were three that really stood out to me despite all of them look amazing.
There were three games that really stood out to me from EA’s press conference. These were Unravel Two, which is out now and also looks like a great sequel from the first Unravel game. Sea of Solitude which had me hooked for so many different reasons and also Anthem which I was really intrigued about when it was revealed at E3 2017 and twelve months later looks even more amazing.
One other thing that was really noticeable during EA’s press conference was just how much passion and happiness the teams behind the games have and how much it comes across when they are showcasing their games. I can’t even begin to think how it must feel standing on that stage revealing all your hard work to the world but it must feel incredible!
Xbox, on the other hand, pulled out all the stops for their press conference this year and it was easily one of the best conferences in recent years. With fifty new games, eighteen exclusive titles and fifteen world premieres there was definitely something for everyone. In all honesty, there were so many great games I don’t know where to start. Not only that there are also so many new games being added and also being released on the Xbox Game Pass that I may actually subscribe to the Game Pass now.
Some of the standout games, of course, are Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 4, Dying Light 2, Gears of War 5 and Ori and the Will of the Wisps to name a few. Every game had me intrigued, amazed and wanting to know more. Even those games that I wouldn’t normally find interesting.
I was very late to the Halo party. I only really started to play my first Halo game around the time that Halo 4 was going to be released. With the Master Chief Collection releasing in 2014 it allowed me to play the franchise from start to finish and filling in the gaps from where I had missed out bits of gameplay previously. Seeing Xbox kick off their press conference with the announcement trailer for Halo Infinite was definitely the right thing to do. In all honesty, I can’t wait to find out more about the next instalment of the game.
The Forza Horizon series really is one of the few driving game franchises that I really stick with and I think that is because of the approach that Playground Games takes with the Horizon games. Not only am I excited that the newest addition is set in Britain but also I love how the Seasons will change the way you play. I’ve always found the Forza Horizon Games to have a relaxed feel to them with no need to rush through the game to complete it. Not only that I usually like to try and take the off-road route to get to the next destination which usually results in me crashing a fair few times.
As for Bethesda, well they really did steal the show. Although I didn’t watch it live due to having work early I managed to watch it at lunch time and all I really have to say is WOW! A new Wolfenstein game, Starfield, Fallout Shelter launching on PS4 & Nintendo Switch and a new The Elder Scrolls game for mobile were just some of the things announced this morning but what really stole the show was finding out more about Fallout 76 and also that the new The Elder Scrolls VI is in the works. It may well only be the announcement trailer but I am seriously so excited for this that I can’t wait and I know I’m not alone when I say that.
With three E3 shows watched and more to catch up on and look forward to I’m sure there are even more great games to be shared with the world. Ubisoft, Sony and Nintendo are three that I’m planning to catch and here’s to hoping they have some surprises up their sleeves for us!
