It’s The Little Things

Where I work there are many regular customers that I have gotten to know over time. Some more than others but there is one particular older gentleman who always takes the time to have a quick chat with me when he see’s me. He comes in daily sometimes even a couple of times a day but never fails to take the time to talk to people.

The first time I spoke to him he was purchasing The Evil Within on Xbox One. He asked me if I played any games and the conversation just went from there. I discovered he loves the Fallout franchise which he has hundreds of hours in Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 4. He had also not long started playing Skyrim. I was really taken back by how much enthusiasm and passion he has for these games and he mentioned how he was wanting to expand and experience some different games he hadn’t played before. I recommended him a few games and it went from there.

Whenever we talk he always lets me know what game he’s playing and what he’s been enjoying about it and what hasn’t been as great as he thought. Now I mentioned that this gentleman is older but he’s in his late seventies and still to this day I love how much enthusiasm he has for gaming. I asked him one day what made him get into gaming. We talked and it turns out he had owned a variety of different consoles and platforms in the 1980’s/1990’s but had drifted away from gaming for a few years. Being retired he wanted to get back into gaming as a hobby that maybe you wouldn’t expect an older gentleman to have. He picked up an Xbox One not long after they were initially released and he fell in love with gaming all over again.

With E3 being a little over a month ago now we caught up a bit about our favourite parts of the conferences (which he stayed up and watched every single one) and the games we were looking forward to. I knew Fallout 76 would be top of the list which it was. This was alongside Anthem and Forza Horizon 4 also. I can still see how much he loves gaming, talking about it and the knowledge he has about gaming. He has even joked about streaming on Twitch or Mixer and I’ve told him maybe give it a go to see if he likes it or not.

It really makes me happy to see just how excited gaming makes this gentleman. He always talks about gaming with such passion and enthusiasm and doesn’t let his age stop him. Inbetween now and the release of games revealed at this years E3 as well as Skyrim he is planning on starting his adventures with Borderlands 2 a game that I recommended to him a few months back and I honestly can’t wait to see what he thinks of the game!

I wrote about this gentleman and his love of the Fallout franchise in an earlier blog post which you can check out here.
