Franchise Friday: Discovering Sanctuary

The first time I knew anything about the Kingdom Hearts franchise was when I came across the song Sanctuary from Kingdom Hearts II on YouTube. Little did I know just what to expect when I went to find out more about Kingdom Hearts. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised and excited to find out more about the first two games while listening to the soundtrack.

Fast forward a few years to when I got my PlayStation 4 and one of the first games I picked up to play was Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 and 2.5 Remix. I was excited to finally be able to play the games myself after having watched many videos on YouTube and Twitch streams. I’ll admit I was nervous about playing through the games myself for the first time but once I settled into playing I felt much more relaxed. Needless to say, I loved playing through the original Kingdom Hearts games and this got me excited to play through the second set of remastered games.

I did pick up Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue when I spotted it on sale over the Christmas period last year with the aim of trying to complete it before Kingdom Hearts III was released. I did make some really good progress and fully enjoyed what I played but I didn’t completely finish all of the game before starting Kingdom Hearts III. I probably have around five hours of gameplay left until I have completed it which, I should probably get around to doing at some point.

Kingdom Hearts III’s release came around and while I was excited to finally play the next installment, I’ve found it really hard to get into this game. I keep finding myself picking it up, playing for a little while and then putting it back down again. I just felt I couldn’t find that spark, that Disney Magic that I had from earlier playthroughs. Currently, I’m still trying to finish the game off. I feel like I have gotten towards the end of the story but regardless of how much of the game I have left, I am determined to finish it.

What started with accidentally stumbling across one of the songs from the Kingdom Hearts II soundtrack has actually taken me on a roller coaster kind of journey over the years and despite the ups and downs, I’ve experienced it has been amazing.  I’ve discovered some of my favourite video game pieces of music and it has helped me make new friends as well and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
