I’ve gone back to my roots in today’s Franchise Friday post. I found myself struggling to create something around this July’s chosen franchise. I kept going over and over it and finding that I just wasn’t getting anywhere. Then everything started to come together. Today is all about Crash Bandicoot and rage quitting!
The first time I remember hearing about Crash Bandicoot was around the time that Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex was being released back in 2001. I was still pretty young and didn’t know very much about the world of video games at the time. Next thing I knew I was exploring Crash’s world and trying to complete each level and whatever it threw at me. I played Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex on and off over the next year or so. There was one particular level relatively early on in the game that I found myself getting stuck on a lot but eventually managed to progress through the game.
This level, time and time again I would fail on. Was it because of my poor judgment and being impatient or was it because I was young and didn’t really understand how the game works? Honestly, it was probably a mixture of all of what I just mentioned. The level in question was Banzai Bonsai. It was the first level in Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex that you play as Crash’s sister Coco.
On numerous occasions, I would rage quit this level and each time I would then start again determined to beat it. Eventually, I did beat it. It took a lot of time and practice but I was still fairly young when Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex originally came out.
Once I got past the level I felt a sense of achievement and relief and from there on just focused on completing the remaining levels. I don’t remember how long it took me to fully finish the game but it probably included a few moments where I rage quit before completing the game.
I’ve actually recently started playing the Xbox One remaster of Crash Bandicoot and it’s bringing back so many memories and maybe one or two little rage quit moments every now and then but I’m determined to not let them get the better of me this time around!
