A Quest for Inspiration

This week is the first official week of Blaugust and the theme for this week is all about topic brainstorming. How I come up with ideas for my blog posts is something that I haven’t really spoken about before so this will be a nice little insight. I don’t really have a format or a set way of coming up with content but I do have a few ways of how I go about it.

A Trusty Notebook

One of the first things I did when I started blogging was to pick up a notebook specifically to write down any ideas or thoughts that I had. There are some good ideas in my notebook and then there are some that I look at and wonder what I was thinking about at the time. I don’t always go to my notebook when writing a new post but sometimes just jumping through the pages is enough to get started. I have found that while some ideas might seem good to write about at the time, they don’t always fit with the blog at that moment in time so it’s always nice to revisit some older ideas from time to time.

Social Media

One of the main sources of my inspiration for my blog posts is through social media. Whether it is Facebook, Twitter or Instagram sometimes I will come across something that will spark an idea for a blog post and then just go from there. It could be something as simple as a Tweet or a conversation or even a video but sometimes that’s all that is needed.

Google & Pinterest

I know I’m probably not alone when I say this but, I’ve taken to Google on a number of occasions searching for ideas for new blog posts. Who hasn’t though? I usually tend to start with the basic searches like “blog post prompts” and “lifestyle blog post ideas” as well as many others just to get the ideas started. It has helped and while the initial prompt might have nothing to do with video games or technology, I somehow find a way to make it work.

Sometimes it is just nice to have a search and see where that search takes you. While you might not be searching for something, in particular, you may well come across ideas you might normally overlook or not notice.

Friends

A lot of my ideas actually come from conversations that I have with friends or from when we are playing games together. Sometimes it is as simple as something that has happened in one of our games or even something they’ve said that has sparked an idea. Sometimes it has come down to my friends suggesting a game to take a look at that has come up with an idea for a blog post.

Following Other Blogs

One of my favourite things to do is read content that other bloggers have shared. To be honest it was reading blogs that inspired me and encouraged me to create my own blog. I have found in the past that I can be reading through a blog post and feel inspired to write a little something because of what I have been reading or that I’ve even had several ideas come about.

On the topic of following other bloggers, here are a few that I reccomend checking out!

There are so many wonderful and amazing bloggers out there all creating incredible content that the ones listed above are just some of the ones I read on a regular basis.

That’s it for week one of Blaugust 2019. You can find out more about Blaugust over on Belghast’s blog here. You can also follow the #Blaugust hashtag over on Twitter here so that you don’t miss out on any Blaugust blog posts!

Happy blogging!

  1. I find conversations with friends and things I see on social media are really good for inspiring posts. It’s sometimes surprising when you see the finished post from where it was inspired from as sometimes I go off on tangents.

    Thanks for the mention too.
