If you were to ask me what I was doing on this day, five years ago then I will simply tell you I was playing The Sims 4 for the very first time.
Today marks the fifth birthday for the game and I can’t believe just how fast that time has gone. It only feels like it has been a couple of years instead.
Loading up The Sims 4 for the first time I was excited but nervous. I had been following the game for the last few months and had an idea of what to expect but at the same time playing the game myself and having the chance to explore all the launch day features of the game, a part of me I still didn’t fully know what to expect.
After playing around in Create a Sim for a bit and creating my first Sim, I hopped into Willow Creek and begun my adventure properly for the first time. I had a very small starter house but it was enough to start with. While yes, there were some things missing in-game from launch like swimming pools, Ghosts, and Toddlers, I’m happy to see them join the game over time.
Having followed the games journey over these past five years it has been interesting to somewhat look back at what has happened during that time. Everything from the Stuff Packs, Game Packs, and Expansion Packs to everything that’s been added through patches during that time and of course, everything else in between too.
Looking to the next few years, well I’m sure The Sims Team have got a lot in store for the community as well as a few surprises for us too. The next Game Pack, Realm of Magic is just a matter of days away from being released and I honestly can’t wait to get stuck into the new pack.
It wasn’t until about a year after The Sims 4 was released that I really started to get involved more in the community on Twitter, Tumblr, and Discord. Along the way, I’ve met so many new people many of who I’m lucky to call my friends and I think I would feel rather lost without them too.
The Sims 4 also opened up a couple of wonderful opportunities to share my love of writing and The Sims franchise with the community. This was through The Sims Legacies and also being a part of The Sims Community Team. I have to say I have loved every single moment of it and I’m so grateful to be a part of both of these! They have both have been great fun and the people involved are all incredible to work with as well as being able to call them my friends too.
Ultimately, The Sims 4 has not only provided me with countless hours of fun and entertainment but it has introduced me to a whole other side of the community that I didn’t know existed, given me the chance to meet some amazing people and it’s been there for me when real life has gotten tough.
Happy fifth birthday The Sims 4! Here’s to the next few years!
To finish off today’s blog post, I’ll leave you with some screenshots from my game from over the years!
