I’m a little late on sharing this post but with how hectic it was last week both in the world of video games and real life, I needed an extra couple of days to catch up on everything. I didn’t manage to catch the Nintendo Direct live as I was still working when it streamed, but joined in on catching up online once I was home. It wasn’t until later in the week that I actually found the time to sit down and watch the Nintendo Direct properly.
Nintendo really did bring a variety of different games to the show, as well as a few surprises along the way. I was hoping that maybe we would see some more about the upcoming Pokémon games as well as some updates for Animal Crossing New Horizons, but I wasn’t too worried that there wasn’t any new information shown during the Direct.
Overall, I was happy with Nintendo’s showcase, there was plenty that grabbed my attention. Here are some of my favourite announcements from the Direct.
Advance Wars 1+2: Reboot
I have so many memories of playing the first Advance Wars game on Game Boy Advance when I was growing up. I actually picked this up not really knowing much about the game itself at the time, but honestly just loved playing it from the moment I first loaded up the game. Honestly, I thought the franchise was finished but when I saw this announcement I was so excited to see it returning again.
Mario Golf: Super Rush
I know this is coming out in a few days, and it sounds silly, but I really enjoy golf games. The Mario Golf series actually holds a lot of memories for me. I owned Mario Golf Advance years ago, and it was one game that I would play with my Grandad, showing him how to play and just sharing that experience with him.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild II
Even though there is still a lot of secrecy around the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, I was happy to see that we had some news about the game. The teaser for me raised a lot of questions as to how the story of the sequel could play out. I guess we’ll have to wait until next year to find out more!
Shin Megami Tensei V
I’ll be honest, I knew pretty much nothing about Shin Megami Tensei prior to seeing this trailer. After doing a little reading afterwards, I started to get a little more of an insight into the franchise and discovered that the Persona games are actually a spin-off of the Megami Tensei games. I’ve recently just started playing through Persona 5 actually, but that’s a story for another day. I’m definitely excited to take a look at this game once it is released.
There’s a number of games that really stood out to me and in all honesty, I just want to take a play of them all. Of course, I couldn’t mention all the games I’m excited for in one post, as I have no idea how long that post would be. I’m excited to check out Two Point Campus, Metroid Dread, Monster Hunter Stories 2, Mario Party Superstars, Life is Strange True Colours/the Remaster and the Danganronpa games. It will take sometime, but I’m sure I’ll check them all out at some point.
One moment that did make me laugh as well was during the Super Smash Brother’s Ultimate reveal of Kazuya. I won’t talk more about it, but I’ll share a GIF of the moment below.
Despite the fact that E3 2021 is now over, the event as a whole was pretty good. I don’t think it was the strongest selection of E3 presentations compared to ones we’ve seen in the past. However, with the current global situation and circumstances in each country, it was very well done. There was plenty that caught my attention and plenty I’ll be checking out between now and E3 next year!
EA Play Live is next up later in July, and I’m not too sure what to expect. There are definitely things I want to see, but at this point I’m remaining optimistic on those.
What was your favourite moment of E3 2021?
