Spotify recently released this year’s Wrapped statistics for everyone, and as always I was pleasantly surprised by mine. This past year, I’ve been listening to a variety of different genres and even sub-genres. Found a love for LoFi and Chill Beats, which have been a blessing when it comes to taking time to relax and sleep. I have to say, ambient rain noises have also made multiple appearances on my Spotify this year, which is a new one.
I’m going to follow the same order that the Spotify Wrapped story takes, starting with songs that would feature in my movie of the year.
- Opening Credits – Odd Eye by Dreamcatcher
- Scoring the Winning Goal – Sweet Bomb by NiziU
- Dancing against the rival dance crew – Likey by TWICE
The songs from Dreamcatcher and TWICE don’t surprise me, however the song Sweet Bomb by NiziU was a bit of a surprise. It’s not a song that I really know of, and has probably cropped up in a couple of playlists I’ve listened to at some point. Not a bad song but an interesting choice.
Next up is the amount of time I’ve spent listening to Spotify during 2021. Keeping in mind that I have Spotify playing almost all the time and at night, I’m actually surprised that the number isn’t a lot higher. Funnily enough, I had a greater listening time than 99.5% of the UK.
As for my most played song of the year, it was Odd Eye by Dreamcatcher with a little over 100 plays, followed by Perfect World by TWICE and several LoFi songs.
My Audio Aura was something I wasn’t expecting. My music moods were a mix between bold and spooky. I mean, I’m not sure how, but I’ll roll with it, I guess!
I somehow managed to listen to over sixty different genres throughout the year, which I was very surprised at. I know I had been exploring more genres of music but didn’t realize just how many I had listened to. I can happily say I did discover a number of artists through my exploring and have continued to do so.
Dreamcatcher continued to be the artist who appeared on multiple playlists that I listened to during the year. However, when it comes to podcasts, I was apparently a fan of a White Noise/Rain Podcast. Must have been one of the many random ones I’d asked my Google Home to play before going to sleep.
While I managed to listen to just under 1,800 different artists just the last year, TWICE triumphed as my top artist overall. I’m honestly not surprised at this, as I’ve had their music on repeat a lot this year.
As for my top five artists, I was actually very surprised, but also not at the same time. I know this year I’ve spent a lot of time listening to K-Pop more than the likes of Pop-Punk, Metal and Rock, but I’m not disappointed. I’ve always been someone who has listened to multiple different artists and genres at any one time. I’ve just loved always having a variety of things to listen to.

BABYMETAL is a regular in my top five as they have appeared a number of times of the last few years, so it’s no surprise to see them there. While they are now on hiatus, I’m sure you’ll still catch me listening to them for a while.
While these artists were my overall Spotify top five, I’ve spent a lot of time listening to Against The Current, Paramore, Olivia Rodrigo, You Me At Six, Taylor Swift, BTS, Bring Me The Horizon, mxmtoon, Our Last Night and many more!
